Applications for pulp & paper

Water is fundamental in the papermaking process. In recent years, great efforts have been made to reduce the volumes of water needed for paper production by closing circuits and ensuring that process effluents must be treated before being discharged into the natural environment.

The mineral coagulants and flocculants produced by Feralco (aluminium sulphate and aluminium polychloride) are applied in the wet end and water treatment processes. They allow:

• the water to be prepared before use in papermaking processes

• anionic contaminants to be controlled, fixing the sizing agents and improving retention and drainage, at the level of the wet end of the paper machine

• effluents to be treated before they are returned to the natural environment
